regenerative farming

At Burgess we are putting a heavy amount of our focus on the longevity of our vineyards and the ecosystem that supports our vines and community.

We would love for you to follow us on our journey as we convert all of our vineyards to biodynamic and regenerative style farming practices and beyond. Our goal is to create a resilient, healthy and more self-sustained vineyard environment with a concentration on soil health. Our Winemaker, Meghan Zobeck believes this style of farming will help her create the most terrior-driven wines from our unique vineyard sites. Here are some of the key principals we are implementing on the farm:

Our Winemaker, Meghan Zobeck believes this style of farming will help her create the most terrior-driven wines from our unique vineyard sites. Here are some of the key principals we are implementing on the farm:

Biodiversity

Increasing biodiversity both above and below the ground via cover crop, edible landscapes, pollinator gardens, bee boxes, insectaries and animal integration.

Animals and Soil

Animal integration which helps increase biodiversity and improve soil and therefore, vine health. Protecting the soils by decreasing tractor passes and tillage and maintaining living roots which helps to increase carbon sequestration.

Promiscous Farming

Promiscous Farming, an experiment proposed by our Winemaker, Meghan Zobeck to bring an ancient Roman farming technique to Napa for the first time. With Promiscuous Farming we push regenerative farming to the edge by breaking up the monoculture in the vineyard with heavy intercropping.

Community

Community Welfare via community outreach, education and improved environmental conditions. You can’t have agriculture without people, so it is important to us to consider the human element of farming and its impact on the community we love.
