Burgess Cellars 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 750ml

This year started out as a typical drought vintage of the 80's.  All the characteristics were there, such as low rainfall, dormant season, warm dry spring and summer.  The harvest season cooled a bit and experienced a period of showers that delayed the picking even more.  Our mountainside fruit easily dried and continued to ripen and we picked it at full maturity - just later than normal.  The wine shows the complexity of mountain grown fruit blended with toasty oak.  It is a beautiful example of an aged Cabernet with lots of spice, along with multi-layered complexities.
