Growing Practices
At Burgess Cellars we know that good growing practices produce good wine. All of our grapes are hand selected and harvested. Our steep mountain vineyards require special equipment such as “crawler” tractors, which enable us to tread lightly on the soil. We practice sustainable agriculture and currently are in the process of gaining organic certification.
Our staff has a real respect for the property, and their impeccable work ethic shows through from accurate pruning, to rock walls on terraces, to other nurturing behaviors of the vine.
Extensive efforts are made, without compromise, to pass along the winemaking tradition to future generations - that’s the difference of a family winery when it comes to farming practices. Our best example of sustainability is our 130 year-old vineyard that continues to improve every year.
